November 2007

Have you noticed a different look to the last couple of flyers that came home with your children? The technology class is finishing up a unit on Microsoft Word in which students learned fonts, font size and other ways to show emphasis in their documents such as Bold, Italics, Underline, Word Art, Clip Art and Auto Shapes. To apply their learning to the real world context, a flyer contest was held in grades 5 & 6. Fifth grade made the flyer for OPEN HOUSE and 6th grade made the one for GRANDPARENTS DAY. MVS faculty and staff had the difficult task of choosing the winners and the flyers you received were the winning flyers. Congratulations are in order for all the hard work and creativity that went into all the flyers.

I hope you will have a chance during Open House to visit the new computer lab located next to the library. This lab allows teachers to take their classes to the lab to work on projects. The laptops are set up and kept charged in this room rather than having to move them to each classroom. On Tuesdays, computer instruction takes place for all grades K-6. An LCD projector enables computer instruction to be carried on in a high-tech manner. Volunteers are always welcome in this busy classroom.
