A
Weekly Overview of 6th Grade
Greetings from the sixth grade classroom!
Report Cards will be going home next Monday. Wednesday is an
early release day; students are dismissed at 12:30. The Milan School
District meeting will be held tonight at 7pm. Tomorrow night Milan and
Dummer both have town meetings. The talent show is next Wednesday March 17th
at 6:30.
Last week we celebrated reading by focusing on books written by
Dr. Seuss. On Thursday was “Green Eggs and Ham” day, we used this theme in
most of our daily activities. Our math project was to use imagine owning a
catering company and to create a quote for a Green Eggs and Ham party. The
students listed out what they would need for ingredients, researched prices
at different grocery stores, calculated how much of each item they would
need to feed 100 people, and figured out how much the cost of food would
be. They then discussed a fee that they would charge to cater this party
and present a quote with the total cost. It was a great activity and the
students seemed to enjoy it. They began the activity on Thursday and
finished it Friday.
This week we will dive back into chapter 6, we will be working on
rational numbers, using the distributive property, and coordinate planes.
The final drafts of our technology research reports will be
finished by the end of this week. Mrs. Kimball worked with fifth and sixth
grades on creating graphs to add to their reports. The reports are coming
out great! The new spelling list is coming home today. This week we are
working on words that contain silent consonants. Spelling packets are due
Thursday and the test will be Friday morning.
All of our Science time will be focused on Science Fair. This
week we will finish experiments, research, and begin our reports. We will
begin our power point presentations when we have finished with the reports.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.
Have a great vacation!
