PRESCHOOL NEWS 5-1-08
KINDERGARTEN INFORMATION NIGHT AND PARENT WORKSHOP: We will be hosting a Kindergarten Informational Meeting followed by a Kindergarten Readiness Workshop. The meeting will be held in the MVS Library on Wednesday, May 14th at 6:00. Child care will be provided in the Kindergarten classroom-just RSVP to Nat Caron at 449-3306 so we know how many children to prepare for. Check out the poster on the Preschool door for all the details! We are posting this information in the paper also. Please spread the word if you know anyone else in Milan or Dummer with incoming Kindergarten children. Thanks!
PRESCHOOL INFORMATION NIGHT: We will be hosting a Preschool Informational Meeting in the MVS Library on Tuesday, May 20th at 6:00. Check out the poster on the Preschool door for all the details! We are also publishing this information in the paper, but spread the word if you know of anyone else in Milan or Dummer with incoming Preschool children. I suggest that all of the Preschool parents attend this meeting to meet Tonya Leveille, our new Preschool teacher. We are so lucky that she’s taking over the Preschool program! She had her own Preschool and Prekindergarten classroom at St. Michael’s for 13 years. She also was the Director of the After-School Program there for 8 years. When St. Michael’s closed, she came to MVS as a paraprofessional and is doing an extraordinary job with the new Life Skills program. She is absolutely wonderful with the children! Welcome to Preschool Tonya!
PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN SCREENING: Please sign your child up for a Kindergarten or Preschool screening if they will be entering Kindergarten or just starting at Preschool next year. Mrs. Caron is scheduling screening appointments for Wednesday, May 21st. You bring your child in and we’ll ask them to show us some things they know such as colors, shapes, numbers, letters, etc. You are welcome to stay during the screening so your child isn’t nervous. See you then!
Show and Tell: Please help your child find 1 item that fits the theme to bring in on their day each week. Thanks! Week of 5/6: Bring in 2 cool rocks that you found outside (we’ll be keeping them in preschool, so make sure your child knows that!) Week of 5/13: Bring in 3 different nature items you found outside (ex. acorn, pine cone, stick) Week of 5/20: Bring in a picture you cut out of a magazine or newspaper and tell why you chose that picture
PLAYING OUTSIDE: We are planning on playing outside at the end of Preschool on Tuesdays afternoons-weather permitting. It’ll be so nice to go out without boots and snow pants. Please dress your child for whatever the weather is on Tuesdays. Thanks!
Preschool Story Time: Monday, May 5th from 12:15 - 1:15 in the MVS Library (any age child is welcome to come hear some stories, sing songs, and do a craft). Please spread the word-the more the merrier. Thanks!
BUSY BEE: Students have a chance to earn a free pass to Storyland by doing community service projects. Mr. Backler came in today and explained this great opportunity to the Preschoolers. They are very excited about this! Paperwork went home Tuesday-check it out!
LOOKING AHEAD TO JUNE: The last day of Preschool will be Thursday, June 5th! We end a week early because Kindergarteners are invited to stay all day for the last week of school to help with the transition into the 1st grade. It is hard to believe we’re thinking about the end of the school year already!

As part of this theme, we’ll be building interesting creations from trash. Be creative-if you are throwing away wrapping paper, ribbons, CD’s, or anything kids would like to build with-please send it in! As always, toilet paper tubes, tissue boxes, plastic jugs are great! Thanks! Happy May! Gerri St. Gelais
