Next Bird Club Meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 14 Did you know?? · New Hampshire’s woods & swamps are home to several species of owls: great horned, barred, Eastern screech & Northern saw-whet. · Owls are nocturnal, which means they hunt at night. They have large eyes that can see in the dark & their head turns in all directions. · They have sharp claws & hooked beaks. · Owls’ ears are hidden under feathers, but they have the best hearing in the world. · Winter is when owls nest. They usually claim an old nest of another species. Baby owls are called owlets. · Owls eat mostly meat including mice, squirrels, rabbits (& other small animals) as well as insects & worms. |
